Protrays are shallow plugs in which germination media remains warm and provides better aeration. Seed are sown directly into plugs. Weeding and thinning is easily carried out in such protrays. Plugs per tray varies from 48-96 per tray. Trays are made of soft plastic to facilitate removal of seedling without damaging its roots. 96 celled trays which are 54 cm X 27 cm and 4 cm deep are commonly used for tomato seedling. Life of the tray depends on the handling and quality of trays.
